GenAI Policy
QELJ recognizes the developing role of artificial intelligence and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in research, creative practice, and scholarly communication.
The journal's policy is based on transparency, human accountability, confidentiality, and research integrity.
1. AI CANNOT BE AN AUTHOR
AI systems, chatbots, and large language models cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume scholarly, ethical, or legal responsibility.
2. HUMAN RESPONSIBILITY
Human authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, data, evidence, references, interpretations, images, artistic materials, and conclusions of submitted work.
3. DISCLOSURE
Substantive use of GenAI or AI-assisted technologies in manuscript preparation, research design, data analysis, coding, image generation, artistic production, translation, or presentation must be disclosed where relevant.
The disclosure should identify the tool and explain how it was used.
4. LANGUAGE ASSISTANCE
Limited use of tools for spelling, grammar, readability, or language improvement does not transfer responsibility away from the authors.
5. PROHIBITED USES
AI must not be used to:
• fabricate or falsify data;
• invent references;
• misrepresent sources;
• fabricate quotations;
• create deceptive research evidence;
• create misleading images or artistic documentation;
• conceal plagiarism;
• generate fraudulent peer reviews; or
• otherwise compromise the scholarly record.
6. REFERENCES
Authors must independently verify all references.
AI-generated or AI-suggested references may not be included unless their existence, accuracy, and relevance have been confirmed.
7. AI-GENERATED VISUAL OR CREATIVE MATERIAL
Where AI-generated images, audio, video, text, or other creative material forms a legitimate object, method, or component of research, its use must be transparently described and comply with applicable ethical, copyright, and attribution requirements.
8. REVIEWERS AND EDITORS
Confidential manuscripts and unpublished materials must not be uploaded to publicly accessible AI services where confidentiality cannot be assured.
Editors and reviewers remain personally responsible for their assessments and decisions.
9. INAPPROPRIATE OR UNDISCLOSED USE
QELJ may request clarification or supporting information where AI use raises concerns regarding originality, authorship, evidence, copyright, references, confidentiality, or research integrity.
